COLUMBUS, Ohio — On election day eve 2022, the Mayor of Columbus surrounded himself with the Columbus Division of Police Chief Bryant, Columbus Director of Public Safety Robert Clark, and Assistant Columbus Fire Chief Blair.
Ginther stated during the press conference that the money includes funding for three new recruit classes in both police and fire, which will add up to 170 police officers (plus 25 lateral transfers) and 125 new firefighters.
If the proposed budget is approved by Council it will also provide funding for the creation of a new Office of Violence Prevention. It is also expected to provide funding to expanded staffing support for several departments and divisions working to promote public safety.
Later this week, the Mayor is expected to announce his entire 2023 Proposed Operating Budget for the city.
