Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan has won the state's Democratic U.S. Senate primary spot in an expected victory. The race was called by The Associated Press shortly after polls closed this evening.
Ryan beat out candidates Morgan Harper and Traci Johnson, who were polling well behind him throughout this election season. He was also the Democratic Party endorsed candidate. It is worth noting that the Franklin County Democratic Party didn’t endorsed any candidate in this race.
Gov. Mike DeWine has won the Republican nomination for a second term in Ohio. He held off a pair of Trump-inspired candidates, former Representative Jim Renacci and Joe Blystone, an underfunded farmer.
Whaley is the first woman to win a major party’s nomination for governor.
She defeated former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley, in the race that was largely friendly but as election day grew closer the two’s leadership abilities did get pitted against one another.
Republican Ohio Senator Rob Portman announced his retirement in January 2021. That announcement set off a highly competitive race that prompted an endorsement last month from former President Trump, of JD Vance.
