UnBossed! Columbus is the only Black-owned and operated multi-media, multi-platform communications company in Columbus, and one of a few in the country. UnBossed serves as the rhythm and voice of Black Columbus by providing information and solutions that educate, uplift, and inspire.
We reach deep into the Black community through events, digital and social media. It is considered the go-to media channel to engage, interact and connect with Columbus’s Black community. UnBossed! is unique in Columbus and throughout the nation. Our brand is built on the philosophy that nothing is more important to a community than its voice.
At UnBossed!, we cover stories on the day’s latest news but we don’t limit our coverage to just the latest news we focus our attention on criminal justice issues, economic injustices, voting rights issues, affordable healthcare, and reforming America’s education system. We believe that nothing is more important to a community than “their VOICE.” That is why we seek to give Black Columbus a voice and to tell our story.
On March 16, 1827, as a four-page, four-column standard-sized weekly, Freedom's Journal was the first black-owned and operated newspaper in the United States, and was established the same year that slavery was abolished in New York State.
In the inaugural publication, the newspaper editors said, "We wish to plead our own cause. Too long have others spoken for us. Too long has the public been deceived by misrepresentations, in things which concern us dearly...”
UnBossed! Columbus will endeavor to put information in a context related to US. We know that very little news that makes it into our newsroom is born at that very moment.
The network will be the champion of facts and will not fall victim to the likes of mainstream media. We aren’t waiters’ in some restaurant that serves you the stories that you ask for and that are prepared to your liking. Nor are we some computer, tablet, or device outputting information that only gives you the facts.
Why, because the news is only useful in the context of human intrigue. We will make no effort to hide personal opinions or personas on UnBossed! Columbus.
